The lipophilic nature of alpha-pinene allows it to readily dissolve in lipids, such as the cell membranes, enabling quick absorption and distribution of its properties throughout the body. When applied topically or inhaled, alpha-pinene acts by causing the constriction or narrowing of blood vessels, leading to a reduction in blood flow to the affected area. This vasoconstrictive effect can be beneficial in certain situations, such as reducing inflammation and swelling.

When alpha-pinene enters the body, it interacts with receptors in the body, triggering a series of reactions that inhibit the production of cytokines, which are responsible for breaking the regular flow in our lymph vessels and nodes.
